Our Parent Organizations

Unit 9201 is part of a larger organization, CSEA, Local 860, which represents government workers in Westchester County, New York. Local 860 has another major unit, CSEA, Unit 9200, which represents Westchester County government workers. Although Unit 9200 is our sister organization and we work closely with them, they are a separate labor organization and represents different government workers in Westchester County. Unit 9201 split from Unit 9200 in 1998 when the medical became a public benefit corporation.

Local 860 is part of the CSEA (Civil Service Employees Association), an Albany-based union representing approximately 200,000 public sector workers across the state of New York. CSEA is part of AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees) and is known as Local 1000 within that organization's structure. AFSCME is America's largest public sector union with approximately 1.4 million members.

The CSEA in Albany helps Unit 9201 represent its members in these important ways:

  • It provides us with the personnel, expertise and information to help us when we negotiate a contract or have disputes with management.
  • It helps us educate our members about issues and policies that affect our lives and mobilizes them into action to address the issues.
  • It ensures the concerns of our public sector workers can be heard at the highest levels of power in the state of New York.
